My alarm goes off…again. It’s 9:30 a.m., but I’ve been awake since 7. My intentions of getting up early to journal, read, and then do some work, dissipate quicker than snow on a warm sidewalk.
Somehow, one snooze turned to two, turned to three, which then turned to resetting my alarm forward another 2 hours.
I’ve been hiding under the covers causing my own anxiety because, for whatever reason, I just can’t seem to get out of my own way. These are the days that I just don’t want to leave my bed.
It’s inevitable that these days are going to pop up. I’m not afraid to admit that they happen to me more often than I would like to confess.
However, what I’ve learned from my own personal life and growth experience is that I have 2 choices in this situation:
1) I can stay in bed, sulk, call myself a failure, and continue a downward spiral that typically leads to raspy-melodramatic-femme-acoustic-music playing on my laptop, and Netflix re-runs while eating waaaay too much ice cream or 2) Get my ass out of bed, be thankful that I’m alive and do something good for the world.
Yeah, there are some days that staying in bed can be the cure. These days can be therapeutic, just as they can be counterproductive. If you find yourself in a rut in which these days seem to be happening more often than not, yet you can’t seem to get out of your own way, having a little kick in the pants can do the trick to get you moving.
So when these days come up that I can’t seem to get out of bed, one of the most effective things that I’ve found to work is to watch inspirational YouTube videos. And seeing how much they can get me out of a slump, I wanted to share with you my top inspirational YouTube videos in the hopes that they help you, like they’ve helped me:

Will Smith – Your Words and Thoughts
I love this one so much that I’ve even ripped the audio and have it on my iPod when I need a quick pick-me-up. Not much you can say but, Will Smith is da man.
First Follower: Leadership Lessons from Dancing Guy
I found this through Derek Sivers website last year, can’t remember exactly how, but its a great explanation on how a following is born. Great reminder for leaders out there who feel like their sticking out from the crowd.
OSHO: Being In Love
“To be selfish simply means to be yourself. Don’t consider anybody else in the world, just consider yourself. And in that consideration, you would considered the whole world.”
Danielle LaPorte – A Credo for Making it Happen
My favorite line: “You will figure it out”. Danielle LaPorte is the author of the “The Firestarter Sessions”.
Steve Jobs’ 2005 Stanford Commencement Address
Straight up truth: “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”
Joe Rogan – What Is Reality.
Joe Rogan is known for doing some crazy shit. And that’s why I love him.
Dr. Brene Brown – Tedx Talk
Really anything from the Ted and Tedx series boosts me up, but I specifically appreciate Dr. Brene’s talk on vulnerability.
